Today's task was to try to make the Eclipse on my home laptop look like the one at work (see the image below). Never underestimate the worth of your coworkers and friends when it comes to helping set up and configure software and hardware. I'm just saying. 30 minutes later and I'm still not there yet.

The quest to learn Java
In an effort to encourage myself to learn Java on my free time, I'm planning to post here about my progress. So far, I've watched a very introductory lecture on Stanford's "Engineering Everywhere" site, bought a book associated with that course, read the first chapter and completed the exercises. Today, I'm downloading and installing Java on my laptop at home, so that I can work here too. Some links:
The Art and Science of Java
"Engineering Everywhere" Introduction to Computer Science
Eclipse
Wish me luck!
Update: I've downloaded Eclipse and the materials from Stanford. I'm going to spend a bit more time tonight reading from the Java book and hopefully get to the exercises before tomorrow.
